Stylish stationery for your Destination Wedding
As a destination wedding planner, I am fortunate to be able to work with some of the very best wedding venues and suppliers. When we work together to plan your wedding, we spend time discussing the look and feel of your wedding, starting with your wedding stationery. This week’s blog post is all about designing stylish wedding invites and on the day stationery, for your wedding abroad. A very warm welcome to Lynda Athey of Lynda Loves

Tips for planning a wedding abroad
Planning a destination wedding can make the happiest day of your life even more special. Celebrating with friends and family overseas is a treat for all involved, making it the perfect excuse to get away and plan a mini break holiday. Planning a UK wedding can be tough enough—one overseas can be even trickier. Organisation is paramount for things to run smoothly.
Give yourself and guests plenty time to organise holidays, source hotels and book flights. Your first stage of notification once your dream venue and location is booked, is to send out Save the Dates. Ideally 18 months ahead, especially if the wedding falls over the summer months. Flights and hotels could be at a premium and guests will need to take time off and save for expenditure.
Once guests have a date in the diary, focus on working with your wedding stationer to finalise your invitation suite, ready to send out approximately 12 months before your wedding date. It may seem early, but you need a firm commitment from guests to finalise your numbers, before working with overseas suppliers and confirming catering quantities.
Choosing your Wedding Invitations
Whether you’re tying the knot in the Mediterranean surrounded by olive trees, or planning a contemporary celebration in a modern art gallery, your stationery is the first port of call that guests will see, giving a reflection of your wedding style. Choose a stationer whose design style you admire, that can interpret your vision, creating a design you can carry throughout, onto your on the day stationery and thank you literature after the event. If you are working with a destination wedding planner, they will be able to make recommendations that will fit with your style and budget.
Two or three visits to the venue is usually enough to source your preferred suppliers with your destination wedding planner and research hotels and transport for guests. This can all be relayed in your guest information booklets, providing the nearest affordable hotels, local taxis, restaurants and any shuttle buses you are organising on the day to the venue. Maps are also a good idea to include as a location base—most stationers will offer this hand drawn service, which gives a bespoke finish and personal touch to your invitation suite.
Most of all it’s important for you to have a simple, stress-free, and more than anything, really exciting experience. There’s nothing better than knowing you’re in a safe pair of hands so you can just enjoy the process of creating something really personal.
