WHAT TO DO ONCE YOU ARE ENGAGED
First of all, the BIGGEST of congratulations on your engagement from me, Wedding Planner at Bride and Belle Luxury Weddings. I hope you’ve had the most fabulous of times celebrating over a glass of bubbly and sharing your wonderful news with friends and family. Now that the dust has settled, you’re probably wondering what to do now that you are engaged! That’s why I’ve written this quick guide to everything you need to do in those first few months.
One of the first things you should think about when planning a wedding is your budget. It can often be difficult in the early stages to understand how much a wedding will cost, particularly if this is your first foray into the world of weddings. Think carefully about how much you are willing to spend and consider what things are going to be important to you. You can read more about my tips for Managing your Wedding Budget here.
CHOOSE YOUR DATE
While you don’t need to pin down a specific date just yet, you do need to think about what time of year you’d like to get married. If you’re planning a marquee wedding then a Spring or Summer wedding will be perfect. If you’re planning a wedding at a stately home and plan to marry indoors, then consider an Autumn or Winter wedding. The day of the week is also important. Many wedding venues will have more flexibility it comes to price and availability if you choose a midweek date, but do bare in mind this could be difficult for your guests if they have to take time off of work.
Pinterest and Instagram are huge sources of inspiration when it comes to planning your wedding. It is a great way to create moodboards that you can share with your wedding suppliers and always handy to keep your pinterest board close by when looking at wedding venues! Wedding Blogs are also another great place of inspiration. BLoved, The English Wedding Blog and Style me Pretty are bursting with beautiful images, and feature the work of some truly talented wedding pros.
Deciding on your perfect venue is one of the toughest parts of your wedding planning journey. There are so many gorgeous venues to choose from and it can be hard to pick the right one for you. Consider what is important to you about your venue. Do you want to be able to choose your own caterer and have complete flexibility when it comes to picking your suppliers, then consider a dry hire wedding venue. Do you need accommodation onsite for your guests? If you’re planning a Weekend Wedding, then consider a luxury exclusive use venue. I’ve written another post completely dedicated to finding your wedding venue here.
Most importantly, enjoy your engagement! Planning a wedding can feel overwhelming at first, but tackling each part of the planning month by month will make it a far more enjoyable experience. There is no limit on how long you should spend planning your wedding and no definitive list of things you should do once you are engaged – it is your day, take things at your own pace and enjoy the moment.
