How to find your perfect luxury Wedding venue

Advice, Planning, Venues, Weddings

Finding the perfect wedding venue in the UK is no small task and should definitely be one of the first things on your list when it comes to wedding planning. The venue that you chose will determine the look and feel of your day, the number of guests that you can invite and importantly, your budget.

For most of my clients, assisting them in finding a venue is one of their key priorities. Clients that use this service often know what type of venue they would like for their wedding but for various reasons just can’t find it.

Here are my top tips to help you find a luxury wedding venue in the UK:

It’s your day! Decide what kind of wedding you would like and consider what your vision is. Once you’ve decided on the look and feel of your wedding then you can begin to research potential weddings. If you’ve always dreamed of a festival themed wedding then take a look at hiring a tipi for the day. Or, if your style is more edgy then think about one of the uber cool London warehouses that are available for wedding hire.

Visit your venue. It sounds obvious but visit your venue before you book it! Don’t rely on photos from a website or conversations with venue sales staff. Go and visit the venue yourself and go prepared with a list of questions to ask. Make sure you’re happy with the feel of the venue and that you’re confident the venue can accommodate all of your requests. Don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions before you sign the contract- get everything confirmed in email and never assume that something has been done.

Budget. It is surprising how many things are overlooked when it comes to allocating the budget for your venue. There may well be extra charges for catering, bar staff and other elements you might want to include. Particularly if you want to have a specific style to your wedding, you will need to work out how much it is going to cost and factor this into your overall budget.

What’s included? Find out what is included in your venue costs. A venue that provides tables and chairs for example, might seem more expensive than a venue that requires you to source your own but it’s a good idea to get an estimate from a hire company to see how the costs compare. Don’t forget that often the items included with a venue can be more basic than what you’d like and you may end up spending more to upgrade them. If you have a specific style in mind for your wedding then it’s a good idea to think about hiring in these items and including them in your venue hire costs.

Guests: It’s easy to forget that many of your guests will have traveled a considerable distance and probably spend quite a bit of money on your big day! Chose a venue that is easy for them to get to and has a range of affordable accommodation nearby.

Does your venue have a coordinator? Will they be there on the day of your wedding? It pays to ask as many questions as possible. Remember, a venue or wedding coordinator works for the venue, and so they will be representing the interest of said venue. Don’t be afraid to ask them to talk you through the flow and timings of the day as well as a detailed floor plan. This is crucial to throwing an awesome wedding and long pauses or disruptions to the day (such as re setting a room) can leave your guests bored with nothing to do and no where to sit. What happens between the ceremony and the reception meal? If your planning on having your wedding outside and it rains on the day, what are the options available inside?

Recommended suppliers. Speak to your venue and ask if they have a list of preferred or recommended suppliers such as Florists and Photographers. These suppliers will have worked at the venue previously and will be able to give you a more accurate idea of costs . They will have experience navigating the space on the day and are likely to offer the best value for money.
